Corrosion mode

The optional extension of program PSTrace for Corrosion Measurements provides some additional measurement techniques:

- Linear polarization, from which the polarization resistance is obtained,
- Tafel plots, from which the corrosion rate is obtained.

Use of this extension requires a licensed PalmSens or EmStat instrument. This license is checked each time the program PSTrace is executed.

PSTrace modes

When the program is set to 'Corrosion mode', extra tabs called 'Material' and 'Corrosion' are added.

PSTrace corrosion mode

The corrosion mode of PSTrace supports the following methods:

- Linear Sweep
- Cyclic Voltammetry
- Amperometric Detection
- Potentiometry

The polarisation curve is used to calculate the corrosion rate and corrosion potential. This can be done manually by drawing two straight lines as well as by means of a computer fit using the theoretical equation.
