Where Science Meets Story
Electrochemistry happens everywhere — in busy laboratories, classrooms and workshops, and in remote field research sites where curiosity and creativity collide. The PalmSens Photographic Competition showcases and celebrates those real moments: the people, places, experiments, and ideas that bring electrochemistry to life.
Whether you are developing new sensors, teaching students, running field tests, prototyping, or exploring new materials, we invite you to tell your unique story to the world through your best photographs and to show the how PalmSens instruments are enabling you to do exciting electrochemistry.
We are especially excited by photographs that highlight:
- Scientific curiosity and hands‑on exploration
- Authentic working environments — from pristine labs to rugged field research sites
- Strong visual storytelling that gives a sense of purpose or context
- Thoughtful composition, clarity, and safe laboratory practice
Why Take Part
Photography gives you a unique way to share the human side of electrochemistry — the problem‑solving, the collaborations, and the quiet focus behind every experiment. Your images can reveal aspects of research that rarely appear in papers or presentations, giving others a glimpse into the process, the challenges, and the breakthroughs behind the science. By joining the competition, you have the chance to highlight the journey behind your work, not just the results.
The competition is also an opportunity to celebrate the people and places behind your research and to highlight your team, your institution, and the partnerships that make your scientific work possible.
There are practical benefits too. Selected and winning entries will be featured across PalmSens channels, including our website, newsletters, and social platforms, always with full credit — giving your work a wider audience. Winners will also receive prizes that recognise both the creativity and scientific value of their contributions.
Share your story and inspire others to see electrochemistry through a fresh and inspiring lens by showing creative setups, unexpected applications, and the hands‑on reality of working with PalmSens instruments.
Prizes
The First Prize Winner will receive a PalmSens EmStat4T instrument. Both the First Prize Winner and the Second Prize Winners (Joint Runners-Up) will receive a copy of Analytical Electrochemistry (4th Edition) by Prof. Joseph Wang, personally signed by the author.
Winning and shortlisted images will also be featured across PalmSens platforms and promotional channels with full attribution.
Who Can Enter
The PalmSens Photographic Competition welcomes a broad and diverse range of contributors and is open worldwide to students, researchers, engineers, educators, technicians, and hobbyists working in all areas of electrochemistry and using PalmSens instruments as part of their research, teaching, or practical applications in any setting. Anyone aged 18 years or older at the time of submission of their entry may enter, whether they are based in a university, research institute, company, startup, or field‑based project — as long as their image shows a PalmSens instrument in genuine use and that it represents their own research work.
To take part, you simply need permission to photograph your working environment and the right to share the images you submit. Photos must depict real electrochemical work; staged product‑only images and images showing PalmSens OEM modules embedded inside third‑party devices are not eligible. Each entrant must submit their own original photographs and ensure that any individuals shown have agreed to be included.
If your research involves real‑world electrochemistry using PalmSens instruments, we invite you to take part and share your perspective.
How to Enter
Taking part is simple. Once you have chosen the photograph you would like to submit, prepare a short caption of 1-3 sentences, that helps viewers understand the moment, experiment, or setting shown, briefly describing what the image depicts including identification of the relevant PalmSens instrument, and upload everything through our online entry form. Your photograph should be your own original work and must show a PalmSens instrument being used in a genuine laboratory, field, classroom, or applied‑research environment. Images that only show a product staged for display, or PalmSens OEM modules hidden inside third‑party devices or embedded systems, are not eligible.
Your image should present the scene as you experienced it, with only minimal editing such as cropping, colour or exposure adjustments, noise reduction, or small corrections for dust or perspective. The integrity of the moment is important, so the content of the scene should not be altered, and AI‑generated elements or AI‑assisted editing are not permitted.
Each image must be submitted in JPEG or PNG format at a good resolution (we recommend a minimum of 3000 pixels on the longest side). As part of your entry, you will also be asked to provide an expanded use‑case description of 3-6 sentences outlining the research, applied context, or practical environment in which the Instrument is shown, as well as the scientific, analytical, or operational relevance of the activity. You will also be asked to provide basic contextual information, such as where the photograph was taken and links to any relevant publications and references. You may submit up to three photographs, each highlighting a different setting, experiment, or use‑case if you wish. Once submitted through the entry portal, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt.
If your photograph includes people, specialised facilities, or locations that require approval, please ensure that any necessary permissions have been obtained before submitting your entry. It is your responsibility to make sure that your entry is submitted before the deadline and that all information provided is accurate.
Key Dates
The competition opens on 1st May 2026, and entries can be submitted until 31st July 2026.
Submitted entries will be reviewed by the competition judging panel, followed by the announcement of winners in August 2026 across PalmSens channels.
We encourage entrants to submit early in the entry period to allow time for refining or adding additional photographs before the deadline.

Competition Judging Panel
The competition is supported by a panel of judges drawn from across the electrochemistry community, industry and PalmSens itself. Together, they bring a wide range of scientific, technical, and visual perspectives to the review process, helping ensure that shortlisted and winning images reflect both creativity and genuine electrochemical insight. The judging process combines independent scoring with a final collective review, ensuring each image is truly evaluated on its visual quality, creativity, scientific value, and the authenticity of the electrochemical work depicted. This year’s judging panel includes:
